Two dead in separate murders
Two murders have been committed on Northeast Philadelphia streets in recent days. The latest killing occurred Monday night on the 7400 block of Dungan Road near Bleigh Avenue in Burholme. According to a Philadelphia police spokeswoman, officers from the 2nd district were called to the scene at 9:23 p.m. to investigate a shooting. They found 24-year-old Clinton Zimmerman lying on the ground with a gunshot wound of the head. Investigators believe that Zimmerman, who lived on the block, was at home when he received a telephone call, then went outside. The shooting occurred moments later, according to a police source. A white Cadillac was seen speeding in the vicinity, but police have not determined whether the occupants were involved in the shooting. Zimmerman was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition and pronounced dead there at 9:44 p.m. No arrests have been made. The police department has released no information about suspects or a motive in the crime. The 1700 block of Bleigh Ave. in Rhawnhurst, about five blocks from Monday's shooting, was the scene of a fatal beating early Saturday morning. According to a police spokeswoman, officers from the 2nd district were called to the scene at 3:46 a.m. They found Jeffrey Jackson, 43, of the 100 block of Chester Ave. in Yeadon, lying on the ground with head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe that the injuries were caused by blunt-force trauma to the head by an unknown object. Later on Saturday, police arrested Arnold P. Nelson, 34, of the 3500 block of Oakmont St. in Mayfair, and charged him with the murder. Details of the arrest were not disclosed. Police believe that an argument precipitated the attack.
