The Holmesburg postal station at 8232 Frankford Ave. will be closed for a while.

For good reason. A customer lost control of his car at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and the vehicle crashed through the station's front lobby, said Cathy Yarosky, a U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman.

No one was hurt, Yarosky said, but the Philadelphia Fire Department evacuated the building because of the possibility of structural damage. All operations have stopped, she said.

Post office box customers may pick up their mail at the Holmesburg carrier station, 3854 Morrell Ave., Yarosky said. Retail customers may visit the USPS Mayfair facility, 7303 Frankford Ave., or the Roosevelt Mall facility at 2331 Cottman Ave.

Yarosky said the postal service doesn't yet know when the Holmesburg station will reopen.
