15th PDAC shuffles board

By Diane Prokop

Times Staff Writer

The 15th Police District Advisory Council's former treasurer, Mike Thaete, now will serve as president the organization's president. The active Mayfair Town Watch patrolling member was elected at last week's meeting to fill the spot vacated by Scott Cummings, who stepped down for personal reasons.

Longtime community activist Angel Cianci Hartman also vied for the spot. Bridesburg Town Watch president Frank Kruzinski withdrew from the election.

Pete Specos, a zoning officer with the Frankford Civic Association, will fill Thaete's seat.

Northwood Civic Association board member Gina Panchella will fill Camille Capobianco's public relations position on the PDAC board. Capobianco stepped down from the post due to personal reasons.

The new board members' terms will continue until the regular-term board elections take place next fall.

Capt. Frank Bachmayer, 15th District commander, updated PDAC members on year-to-date crime statistics. Total violent crime is down 7 percent; property crime is down 10 percent; and shooting victims are down 28 percent.

Bachmayer also gave a report on the Oct. 21 Phillies National League Championship celebration at Frankford and Cottman avenues.

The captain estimated 10,000 to 12,000 Phillies fans gathered at the intersection. There were 12 arrests throughout the whole detail, most for fights and other disorderly conduct.

He credited the success of the detail to the cooperation of additional police from outside the district, city agencies, bar owners, Mayfair businesses, SEPTA, along with "most importantly the people, who came to celebrate the win."

The captain is hoping to have the same success and level of cooperation from Phillies fans that come out for a possible World Series celebration.

Bachmayer also invites residents from the district to share their concerns at a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at St. Joachim's church hall, Church and Griscom streets.
