Wyncote party store carries ‘so many novel items’

The party starts with SGS Paper Co.

The Wyncote business has the largest selection of decorative and seasonal party supplies in the Delaware Valley, said owner Barry Schwartz.

Among its full line of goods, SGS offers latex and Mylar balloons, helium tanks, baking pans, cake boxes, personalized invitations and stationery for birthdays, weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs and more, he said.

“We are a unique store because we carry so many novel items,” said Schwartz. “Because our selection is so vast, people know they will find what they’re looking for.” An extensive list of the company’s products and services is available on its Web site, www.sgspaperco.com.

SGS offers “deep discounted prices,” the owner added.

“Because we are located in a warehouse, our rent is less expensive than it would be in a strip mall,” he said. “Our cost to do business is less so we can provide customers with lower pricing.”

What truly sets the store apart, though, is its treatment of the customers, said Schwartz, adding that its initials, “SGS,” can be applied to “specializing in great service.”

“It’s the main crux of our business,” he explained. “We have bright, knowledgeable people here who are very good with customers. Very helpful. They really make the difference.”

Throughout nearly three decades in the business, SGS has been a longtime winner of several local-industry awards, including the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Best in Class for party supplies.

“We try very hard for our customers and they have continually voted us number one,” said Schwartz. “We are very grateful to them because you are only as good as your customers think you are.”

With Halloween approaching, visit SGS for a vast selection of supplies, decorations, balloons and accessories for parties, and a limited costume assortment.

The business serves a number of local organizations, including churches, synagogues, VFWs, hospitals and businesses, the owner said. The company also will serve and deliver to all over the Delaware Valley.

The family-run business includes Schwartz’s wife, Monna; daughter, Stephanie; mother, Goldie; son, Brian; and a number of other helpful employees, said the owner.

Right now, SGS Paper Co. is offering 35 percent off party supplies for every occasion and 50 percent off all solid color paper and plastic products as a “thank you” to its customers.

The store is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday until 8 p.m. SGS is closed on Sundays.
