PW comes together during homecoming week

Homecoming week — It is one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year and it is the time for some major school spirit. From Oct. 19 to 24, students at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PW) celebrated six days of fun.

Every day was a different theme and there was a different activity going on almost every night.

The week began with Clash Day. Students wore the most random clothes that they could find and walked around school like it was a normal day.

That night was the Wing Bowl, which is school-wide competition where teachers and students compete to see who can eat the most chicken wings.

Clash Day was followed by Beach Day. Students wore bathing suits over clothes, Hawaiian leis, flip-flops and grass skirts, floaties and pool floats.

One student even brought in a beach chair and used it in class.

In the middle of the week was Hat Day and Teacher Switch Day. Students became teachers and teachers became students. As far as the hats, there were a lot of Phillies hats as well as Goofy hats and Cat in the Hat hats. Color Wars made that an extremely fun night. During this activity, the freshman and juniors formed the Red Team and sophomores and seniors formed the Blue Team.

The Red Team and Blue Team competed in activities from Hula Hoop Relay to Tug of War.

Thursday was School Spirit Day, where everyone wore blue and red or their sports team jerseys. That night was Powderpuff Football, the only night where girls can play football. The freshman beat the sophomores, 6-0 and the juniors beat the seniors in a close game, 13-12.

Friday was College Day and Sports Team Day. Everyone either wore Phillies, Eagles and Flyers t-shirts or some kind of clothing with a college name on it. That night the PW Colonials football team played against Upper Merion, in which PW was victorious! Saturday night was the Homecoming Dance, which was Halloween themed. The costumes ranged from pirates to 1980s dress to the band KISS.

Everyone who went had fun dancing or went into the cafeteria to watch “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
