Beyond the typical sandwich shop: hearty fare and a ‘homey’ atmosphere
Not Just Sandwiches! is not just another eatery.
Everything at the Lansdale restaurant is homemade, served in sizeable portions and comes with a very reasonable price tag, said owner Bob Herbst.
“If you leave hungry, there’s something wrong with you,” he said.
The Not Just Sandwiches selection of breakfast and lunch dishes covers anything a customer could want. Menus are available online at www.notjustsandwiches.com.
To make the restaurant’s celebrated home fries, which Herbst calls “the best in town,” the restaurateur works with 200 pounds of potatoes per day.
Not Just Sandwiches serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week, and recently began offering dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
Customers can eat in, take out or have their favorite foods delivered with no delivery surcharge, said Herbst.
The owner, who does all the cooking himself, promises to go above and beyond for his patrons.
“There’s nothing I won’t do for a customer,” he said. “If they want something a certain way, I’ll make it for them.”
Breakfast and lunch specials are available each day, including specialty pancakes — chocolate-peanut butter, Irish cream and strawberry-vanilla.
Herbst also experiments with omelets, recently creating an asparagus and hollandaise dish and a “corned beef special” with Swiss cheese and thousand-island dressing.
Herbst, who has worked in and managed a variety of restaurants throughout his 30 years in the industry, opened Not Just Sandwiches in August.
“This style is something the town needs,” he said. “It’s great food and reasonable pricing that make you want to come back constantly.”
The atmosphere has a “homey” feel to it, the owner added.
“It’s a great place for the family,” he said. “There’s a nice camaraderie where anyone can come in, relax, talk and have a good meal.”
The kitchen, surrounded by a low wall, is located out in the dining room so customers can watch as their food is made.
Herbst is hoping to add a “mug corner” in the coming weeks; regulars can hang their own personal mugs on the wall, come in for a cup of coffee and feel at home.
Not Just Sandwiches also plans to offer on- and off-premise catering around the holidays, the owner said.
The restaurant is currently open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., with dinner hours on Friday and Saturday.
