Lou’s Farm Mart has everyday groceries and seasonal treats

Eat well, save money and feel like family at Lou’s Farm Mart.

The “old-fashioned” market, located in Bensalem, has a seasonal garden center, an assortment of fresh vegetables and a full-service deli, said owner LouAnn Tarlini.

“We have hundreds of fresh produce items,” she said. “There’s a lot of variety here and everything is made in the store.”

The business sells made-to-order sandwiches, salads and entrées, plus soups and lunch specials that change daily.

“You never know what you’re going to get,” she said. “From hot turkey with stuffing to stuffed peppers to chicken parmigiana — it’s always something fresh and homemade.”

The business offers catering and party trays, too, she said.

Right now, Lou’s is taking orders for Thanksgiving pies and celebrating the locally grown fall harvest, which includes country sweet apples, yams and more.

“We have 10-inch, deep-dish pies — pumpkin, apple and our featured caramel apple walnut,” said Tarlini. “They’re 20 pounds.”

Customers shopping at Lou’s will save between 30 and 50 percent on their grocery bills, according to the owner.

“The prices are less than supermarkets across the board,” she said. “It’s $1.80 per pound of butter and 99 cents for a dozen eggs. They’re nitty-gritty, old-fashioned prices.”

Customers can get the full food shopping experience at Lou’s, too, Tarlini added. “It’s not the kind of store where people just come in, grab a pound of bologna and they’re out the door,” she said. “We see shopping carts. We feed families.”

The mart, open year round, touts its personal service and friendly atmosphere, said the owner.

“We treat our customers like family, always keeping number-one satisfaction of products along with the best, friendly service we can offer,” she said. “We value our reputation in the community and are very proud to be here for more than 30 years.”

Tarlini’s husband, Lew, took over the business — then the Blue Hill Diner — from his parents in 1978.

The farm market began as a produce stand on the road outside the business. “Our first cash register was an old cigar box,” said Tarlini. “When Lew’s parents retired, we put in the deli and continued to sell produce under a big tent outside and it eventually progressed to what we have today.”

Lou’s Farm Mart is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Varying seasonal specials are available. See Lou’s Farm Mart’s advertisements in My Community Trend or call 215-639-9979 for more information.
