Bright Beginnings in Sewell sheds light on innovative preschool program
Bright Beginnings Academy gives your child the foundation needed to fashion a brighter future.
The Sewell-based facility provides an enriching educational environment for children ages 2-and-a-half to first grade, said owner Chirag Patel.
“We do a lot of playtime and games, but it’s more education-based,” he said. “We focus on skills — numbers, alphabet, colors — and they are reinforced throughout the week.”
Students also participate in art, music and foreign language lessons, he added. The center follows set curriculums for all age groups, which Patel says are more advanced than the typical child-care facility.
“We try to move about six months ahead of other schools,” he said. “In [pre-kindergarten] and kindergarten, the students are usually at a first-grade level after the first half of the school year.”
The center’s professional teaching team is dedicated to the school and adept at providing for a child’s individual needs, said the owner.
“The staff, on average, has been here for more than 10 years,” he said, adding that all teachers are certified with four-year degrees.
Preschool students take part in “circle time” to discuss the calendar, weather and what’s going on in their worlds, according to the school’s Web site, www.bbanj.net. The children also participate in math lessons, story time, arts and crafts, reading time and free play.
Kindergarten students focus on counting, sounds, Spanish, sign language, coins, fine arts, social studies and science during their circle time, according to the site.
Other lessons teach students about sentence structure, vocabulary, handwriting, computers, shapes and more.
Bright Beginnings Academy has become a trusted name in quality education since opening in 1978. When Patel took over the facility in 2007, he made certain to preserve its educational core.
“We made some physical changes and some upgrades, but we’ve kept the same philosophy, curriculum and staff,” he said.
For children not yet old enough to enroll in Bright Beginnings, the center offers the Moms N’ Tots program.
“The classes are for moms or dads to bring in their kids for an hour a week and do activities together — painting, drawing, tumbling, playing with toys,” said Patel. “It gets the kids used to more of a school environment and gets the parents out of the house, spending time with their children.”
The classes, taught by Assistant Director Dina Talvacchio, are limited to 10 students per class and begin the week of Oct. 1. Those interested in enrolling their child (ages 18 months to 2-and-a- half) in a four-week session should contact the center to reserve a spot.
During the summer, Bright Beginnings holds a fun day camp with water activities, karate, soccer, gymnastics, art, music, fitness, cooking, science and more, said Patel. The center also features a 2,000-square foot playground area with separate facilities for preschool and elementary school children.
Part-time and full-time care is available at Bright Beginnings. The center accepts walk-in tours, but encourages those interested to schedule an appointment by calling 856-582-1144.
