Dambly’s Garden Center has seasonal garden trimmings aplenty

Fall in love with autumn adornment and activities at Dambly’s Garden Center.

The full-line garden center, located in Berlin, offers annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, ground covers, both bag and bulk mulches and stone, horse feed, seasonal decorations and more, said owner Harold Dambly.

To get festive for the fall season, customers can take advantage of savings on a “door-decorating package” for $26.99, which includes two cornstalks, two mums, a bale of straw and two orange bows, he said.

Mums sold in the “jumbo” size — 18 to 24 inches across — are three for $13.99, and the smaller, 6-inch pots for a “splash of color” can be purchased for $2.99 when buying six or more, Dambly added.

The center also sells ornamental cabbage and kale, individual cornstalks and loose bales of straw. Customers looking to decorate with a festive wreath are able to mix and match materials to customize their own, he said.

Currently, Dambly’s is offering free hayrides on the weekends, plus pumpkin decorating classes and face painting for children.

The garden center’s vast assortment of products keeps customers confident they’ll find what they need, said the owner.

“We have unique items here; the mums are great, and we have about eight different types of gourds,” he said of the fall line. “Our decoration selection is greater than what you’d find in mass merchants, too.”

But what really sets the business apart is its exceptional customer service.

“People visit us because we have the right products to solve their problems,” said Dambly. “We give them the right answers when it comes to gardening and taking care of their lawns, and that’s not something you’re going to get in other stores.”

For those whose lawns have been depleted by the summer heat, now is the perfect time to begin the repairs, said the owner.

“Any time the nights begin to get into the 50s is an excellent time to be seeding,” he explained. “We have seed, fertilizer, lime — all the things you need to grown your lawn agronomically correct.”

The center also sells organic materials, which Dambly said have become more and more popular as the younger generation becomes “more responsible for Mother Earth.”

Dambly, who studied ornamental horticulture in college, previously worked in landscaping before he and his wife, Arnette, opened the center in 1979. They moved to their current, 10-acre location in 1991.

“I love the constant changing of the seasons; it’s always something to look forward to,” he said. “I also really like helping the customers with all their needs, too; it’s really important and a lot of fun.”

Dambly’s Garden Center is open year round. Fall hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 856-767-6883.
