Wine and Food Classic will aid Vitrua
Foodies and drink swillers will be able to wine and dine for the benefit of one of New Jersey’s leading health care systems.
On Sept. 30, local businesses and top restaurants will be on hand for the 2009 Fall Wine and Food Classic, benefiting the Virtua Foundation, said Rachel Salbo, special events manager for the nonprofit.
“Where else can attendees have the opportunity to taste such a wide variety of wines, as well as small plates from so many delicious restaurants, all in one night at the same place?” she said. “While enjoying the numerous restaurants and drink selections, participants are supporting Virtua and healthcare services in South Jersey.”
The event, in its ninth year, will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Virtua’s Barry D. Brown Health Education Center in Voorhees.
Tickets are $75 per person and advance registration is required, said Salbo.
Kress Wines and Kramer Beverage will present more than 100 varieties of wine and a showcase of microbrews, craft beers and lagers.
Guests will enjoy a delicious sampling of hors d’oeuvres, appetizers, entrees and desserts from South Jersey Hot Chef restaurants, including Anthony’s Creative Italian Cuisine, Catelli Restaurant, Elements Café, La Esperanza, Los Amigos, Patisserie de Manille, Scaturro’s and Coriander Indian Bistro.
The Virtua Foundation, a nonprofit organization of the Virtua healthcare system, raises funds to help purchase leading-edge medical technology, modernize and expand hospital facilities and support educational programs that serve patients and the community, according to its mission statement.
The event is a fun night out for those 21 and older, said Salbo, and benefits a great cause.
Since 2003, the event has netted $17,000 for the Virtua Foundation, she added. For the first time this year, sponsorship opportunities for the event are available, combining the benefits of advertising and participation, said Salbo.
The $5,000-Chateau Sponsor, for example, includes a full-page advertisement in the program book, signage in the registration area and tickets to the event for 10 guests. Other packages for $2,500 and $500 also are available.
Virtua, a comprehensive multi-hospital healthcare system headquartered in Marlton, aims to deliver a world-class patient experience through its programs of excellence in cancer treatment, cardiology, orthopedics, women’s health, pediatrics, surgery, neuroscience and wellness.
A non-profit organization, Virtua employs 7,900 clinical and administrative personnel, and approximately 1,800 physicians serve as medical staff members.
The system has been honored twice with the New Jersey Governor’s award for Clinical Excellence and recognized with the Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement by Voluntary Hospitals of America.
The Virtua Foundation holds four annual events to benefit the healthcare system, including a gala at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City and two golf outings, said Salbo. In June, the Gene Hart Memorial Golf Outing raised $82,000, which will go toward oncology resources.
Funds raised through the other events, including this year’s Wine and Food Classic, are unrestricted and go to benefit the entire Virtua system, said the events manager.
Those interested in attending or sponsoring the Sept. 30 event may register online at www.virtua.org/foundation or call the Virtua Foundation at 856-335-0830. Space is limited and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
