Save a cow: Go to Cherry Hill and ‘Eat Mor Chikin’

The Chick-fil-A at Garden State Park serves up family-friendly fun along with the restaurant’s tasty fare

Don’t have a cow: The Cherry Hill Chick-fil-A combines tasty chicken meals with exceptional service to satisfy its customers’ cravings.

The store, located in the Garden State Park shopping center, is a “perfect hybrid” of the two traditional styles of Chick-fil-A restaurants, according to local operator Jeff Price.

“We’re basically in an outdoor mall location,” he said. “We don’t have a drive-through or a playground, but we’re not exactly in the food court, either — it’s more of a coffeehouse feel.”

The Cherry Hill restaurant offers all of the standard Chick-fil-A favorites, including the original hand-breaded chicken sandwich, chicken nuggets, wraps, waffle fries and desserts.

Many of the items — salads, coleslaw, etc. — are made from scratch, milkshakes are hand blended and lemonade is freshly squeezed, said Price.

Seven different adult meals are available, including healthier options, such as the chargrilled chicken sandwich and “Cool Wraps,” as well as fresh fruit cups and the carrot and raisin salad for a side.

Not everyone realizes Chick-fil-A serves breakfast, Price said, but he encouraged the public to take part in the restaurant’s free breakfast promotions, which began July 2 and will run for the next five weeks.

“Each Thursday, there will be a pre-selected entrée for breakfast and customers can just come in and ask for it for free,” he said. “Some people are afraid to have chicken for breakfast, but this is a good way to try it out.”

The restaurant also is offering a new peach milkshake for a limited time, Price added. In addition to its quality food, the Cherry Hill Chick-fil-A strives to offer the very best service to its customers, the operator said.

“We don’t consider ourselves a fast food place — we’re a quick-service restaurant,” he said. “I know it’s semantics, but there is a difference.”

The Chick-fil-A staff will make you feel warm and welcome when ordering and treat you as if you are at a sit-down restaurant,” Price explained.

“We really go the extra mile for the customer,” he said. “We’ll carry your tray to the table, check in with you as often as we can, refresh your beverage, help clear your tray when you’re finished and carry large orders out to the car.”

Price, who has been operating the Cherry Hill location since November 2007, began working at Chick-fil-A at the grand opening of the Deptford Mall location in 1991.

“I was 16 at the time, looking to save money and get a car, but I ended up staying there and working my way up,” he said.

Now in his 18th year with the company, Price says his favorite part is the personal interaction, especially with his staff.

“It’s nice to find young kids and do for them what my former operator did for me, watching them blossom and learn in the workplace,” he said. “It’s also nice to see people of all ages and backgrounds unified and moving in the same direction.”

The Cherry Hill Chick-fil-A regularly holds Family Nights, hosting special guests and giving customers the opportunity to take their picture with the restaurant’s cow mascot. A calendar of events is listed on the local store’s Web site, www.chick-fil-a.com/gardenstatepark.

The illustrious bovine will be celebrated nationwide July 10 — Chick-fil-A’s “Cow Appreciation Day.” Any customer who dresses in a cow costume will get a free meal. More information is available at www.cowappreciationday.com.

Chick-fil-A is open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday. “The founder [Truett Cathy] decided when he started the company that Sunday is a day of rest and the restaurant would not be open,” said Price. “Even amongst pressure from retailers, all Chick-fil-A restaurants have always stayed closed on Sunday.”

The first restaurant opened in 1967 in Atlanta following Cathy’s invention of the first boneless chicken breast sandwich, according to the company’s Web site, www.chick-fil-a.com.

Chick-fil-A, still privately held and family owned, now has more than 1,430 locations in 38 states.
