Get your body fit, healthy at the William G. Rohrer Center

Fulfill your fitness goals and work your way to wellness at William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness.

The Voorhees facility not only offers a full-scale fitness environment for those who are healthy, but is also designed for those who utilize fitness to manage their medical conditions, said executive director Paula Konstantinides.

“For example, studies have shown that exercise while going through cancer treatment can significantly help with fatigue and managing the symptoms associated with the treatment,” she said.

Physicians, nurses and other staff members from Virtua help create and manage a member’s individualized medical treatment plan, Konstantinides added.

“They can help someone who’s had a cardiac event or someone coming out of physical therapy transition back into exercise programs,” she said.

The 82,000-square-foot facility features a cardiovascular training area, a 25-meter lap pool, aerobic group exercise pool, warm-water therapy pool, indoor cushioned track, basketball court, group exercise studios, executive-style locker rooms, conference rooms and more, according to its Web site, www.fitness.virtua.org.

A virtual tour of the facility is available online.

The William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness also hosts more than 100 classes per week, said Konstantinides.

“From water-based classes to spinning to tai chi to step class to kickboxing — they’re all on the schedule,” she said, adding that paid membership includes all classes.

Through FitSmart, Virtua’s Center for Weight Management and Longevity, a qualified clinical staff of dieticians, fitness specialists and registered nurses helps members through a scientifically based program to control their weight and live healthily.

The center also features a certified hypnotherapist to help reduce stress, anxiety, fears, discomfort from chronic pain or unwanted habits, said Konstantinides, and the FitSpa offers an array of massage and skin care treatments.

Memberships to the center do not require a long-term commitment, said the director. “They can pay either monthly or yearly,” she said. “It’s their choice.”

The center is for adults only; members must be 18 or older, or 16 if accompanied by a parent.

On-site child care is available for a fee, Konstantinides said.

The William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness, which opened nine years ago, is the only center in the tri-state area certified by the Medical Fitness Association, said Konstantinides.

Virtua will be opening a second, similar fitness center in Washington Township at the end of the year, she said.

The nonprofit organization is a comprehensive multi-hospital health care system with a mission to deliver a world-class patient experience through its many programs, according to its Web site.

The Marlton-based organization has been honored twice with the New Jersey Governor’s award for Clinical Excellence and recognized with the Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement by Voluntary Hospitals of America.

The William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness in Voorhees is open Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 856-325-5300.
