Penn Queen Diner makes it fresh and homemade every day

You’ll be treated like royalty at the Penn Queen Diner.

The Pennsauken restaurant, opened in 1964, offers a full-range of appetizers, salads, sautéed dishes, seafood items and classic American meals, said manager Manny Konstantinides.

“There is definitely something for everyone,” he said, adding that everything is cooked and baked on premises.

Penn Queen has a large number of regulars who come in for its renowned daily specials, the manager added.

“We have chicken pot pie on Thursdays, beef stew on Mondays and old-fashioned cream of chicken soup on Sundays,” he said. “People are crossing the bridge [from Pennsylvania] for them.”

The diner also offers a “petite menu” Monday through Thursday. Patrons pay $9.99 for one of 15 items, including chicken parmigiana, homemade lasagna, fried chicken, fried flounder and penne pasta primavera.

“You can’t beat the price, and portions are very generous,” said Konstantinides. “I’d be very surprised if you leave here hungry.”

Customers also can enjoy a drink at Penn Queen’s full-service bar, he said.

Zane Katsikis, originally from Andros Island, bought the diner in 1966 with two partners who also emigrated from Greece. The partners have since retired, said Konstantinides, but Katsikis runs the business with his sons, Nick and Tom.

The family and members of the staff, many whom have been with the business for decades, always put customers first, said Konstantinides.

“It’s the quality that counts, and we really work at it every day to make sure everyone’s meal is properly served and the customer is happy,” he said.

Penn Queen Diner is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more information, call 856-662-1928.
