Race in your dream car with this Xbox 360 exclusive game
My relationship with racing simulation games has been long and painful. I have never been particularly good at these games, and my friends, who are much better at them, take great pleasure in sending my vehicle into the wall, as they speed past me.
“Forza Motorsport 3” realizes that not everyone who picks up the game is going to be a racing pro, and goes out of its way to make this a fun experience for you. Turn 10 has added a ton of features to help novice racers on their quest to become great racers. The rewind feature, auto-breaking and a quick upgrade option will make it easy for anyone to play this game.
The rewind feature does exactly what you’d think. If you make a mistake, you can hit the select button, and you will flash back several seconds. This gives you the ability to fix any mistakes you make instantly, and it can be used multiple times in one race.
The auto-break system will apply the brakes for you, so this means all you have to do is hold down the gas and steer. If you do know what you’re doing, you can easily turn off the auto-brakes, and just keep your hand away from the rewind button.
“Forza” offers an amazing amount of customization. Every one of your cars can be tuned any way you want, from the color, to the intake system, and you can upgrade everything. The good news for those of you who are not gearheads: Turn 10 has a system for you, too. The quick upgrade button will fully upgrade your car without you having to pick parts for every system. This not only makes it easier to keep your car competitive, but gets you back to racing quicker.
“Forza Motorsport 3” features over 400 cars from over 50 of the world’s car manufactures. No matter what dream car you have always wanted to drive, there is a good chance you can find it in this game. From Mustangs to Ferraris, you will get your chance at all of them. As you play through the different races, you earn more cars than you can play with. While you start off with only one car, you quickly earn more models and discounts on upgrades.
The downside to the game is the Artificial Intelligence (AI). Your opponents will always race a perfect race. They will always take the best line, making it almost impossible for you to pass them without some kind of damage to your car. The downside is that any repairs to your cars come out of your winnings. It is almost impossible to win a race cleanly, so if that is something that is important to you, “Forza” will likely aggravate you.
The good news is that the multiplayer mode gives you a more realistic race. Your fellow racers won’t be perfect, but they will be a lot more fun. While you can run a traditional race, there is also the “cat and mouse mode.” In cat and mouse mode, the mice run the race in low-end cars, trying to beat the other mouse. Your teammates in high-end cars do all they can to slow down your opponent.
There is a downside to having so much content in the game. You have to have a hard drive to be able to access all the content. You not only have to have a harddrive, but one with 1.9 GB of space. This is before any DLC (downloadable content) is released. Unless you have a large hard drive, “Forza” will force you to free up some space on your Xbox to play.
For NASCAR fans, there are stock cars that handle just like a car on the Sprint Cup. The only problem is that they are generic stock cars. NASCAR has sold the rights to its cars to “Grand Turismo 5,” so if you’re looking for a NASCAR experience, you’ll have to wait to next year, and have a PS3.
“Forza Motorsport 3” is an amazing looking game. The amount of cars, tracks and customization is nothing short of outstanding. If you’re a racecar enthusiast or just looking to try a racing simulation game, you will be happy with “Forza.” This is a definite buy, since there is so much to see and do in this game that makes renting it unrealistic. Buy this game, and you will be able to race well into 2010.
