One dead in Norristown crash

One person was killed Thursday morning when a car fleeing from police crashed in Norristown into the personal vehicle of an off-duty sheriff's deputy.

One person was killed Thursday morning in Norristown when a car fleeing from police crashed into the personal vehicle of a Montgomery County sheriff's deputy who had been driving to work, authorities said.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m., when a white Hyundai sedan ran a red light at Hamilton and Main Streets and struck the deputy's vehicle.  who was driving to work.

One occupant of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene and four others were taken to Paoli Hospital. The deputy was not seriously hurt.

Police had been called earlier to Hamilton Street to investigate suspicious activity and attempted to obtain the registration of the Hyundai when the vehicle sped away, authorities said.
