Milder impact expected from next winter storm

For the third time this month, a nor'easter was expected to affect the Philadelphia region early Tuesday.

The latest storm, however, wasn't expected to pack as much of a punch locally.

"More of a glancing impact," said Jared Klein, senior forecaster at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

Still, the advice being given out was: Take your umbrella, and check with the airports before heading out.

The weather will affect airports, the Federal Aviation Administration said, from Washington all the way to Boston — including Philadelphia International Airport, where officials were advising travelers to check with their airlines for any changes.

The storm began as drizzling rain Monday afternoon, but was expected to change over to snow overnight. A winter weather advisory was issued starting at 8 p.m. for all of New Jersey north of Burlington County and Northeastern Pennsylvania along the Delaware River north of Bucks County.

Accumulations were expected to be a coating to an inch for most of the Philadelphia region, with 1-2 inches possible in the northern parts of Burlington and Bucks Counties.

"The Tuesday morning commute will be adversely impacted as snow will probably be in progress through sunrise and all untreated surfaces are expected to be snow covered and slippery," the NWS said. Winds will not be as strong the first storm, ranging from 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

After the storm, the weather service said, the weather will still be wintry around these parts.

"A colder than normal work week, blustery with periods of flurries and even a sizable snow squall threat Wednesday afternoon," the weather agency said.
