Television viewers in South Jersey got a scare Tuesday night when an alert about a nuclear power plant emergency was transmitted in error, officials said.
Gunfire erupted just after 5:20 p.m. in the 5500 Heiskell Street, police said. A 37-year-old man who was shot once in the chest was taken by medics to Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.
A Kensington homeowner shot a 47-year-old man who was breaking into his residence Tuesday afternoon, police said. Just before 1:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Albright Street, the intruder was shot in the chest by the homeowner, who was not described further.
The elevator stalled over the weekend. Rescue crews hoisted each of the passengers 100 feet up the elevator shaft.

Grant Shea of the 2000 block of South Dorrance Street had been charged last year with receipt, possession, and distribution of child porn and was released to home confinement pending his trial.
Just before 5:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Dauphin Street, the woman allegedly stabbed the man once in the upper chest, police said. The man was taken by medics to Temple University, where he was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m.
The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. outdoors in the area of 22nd and Fox Streets. Police rushed the victim to Temple University Hospital.
The attempted robbery occurred shortly before 2:40 p.m. in the 4800 block of Palethorp Street. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was licensed to carry a firearm and shot his assailant in the left groin, police said.

About 5 p.m. in the 500 block of South 52nd Street, the victim was shot three times. He was rushed by police to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
