Police: Montgomery County man dies after tree falls onto car

A 57-year-old Montgomery County man sustained fatal injuries after a large tree fell on his car Friday evening as the region battled a powerful nor'easter that brought damaging winds and harsh weather.

The Upper Merion Township Police Department responded to the incident along South Gulph Road between Arden and Upper Gulph Roads around 7 p.m., where they found that a 45-foot portion of a tree had fallen onto the front windshield, dashboard and front seat of a car traveling northbound.

The occupant, of Upper Merion, died at the scene, according to police. An investigation is ongoing. The man's name is being withheld as officials notify his family.

Friday's storm has claimed at least six other lives on the East Coast after gusty winds brought trees down on roads and homes, according to the Washington Post. Nearly 300,000 Peco customers were still without power Saturday morning, with about 99,000 of those affected living in Montgomery County.
