A massive fire that ripped through a bus garage has forced class cancellations at a Lehigh Valley school district Friday.

Twenty-five school buses used by the Parkland School District in Lehigh County were destroyed in the blaze, according to the school.

Firefighters responded to the incident around 3 a.m. Friday, and found "flames coming out of all four sides plus the roof," Jeff Johnson, chief of the Tri-Clover Fire Co. told the Associated Press.

Officials sought shelter as tires exploded and metal siding went flying, according to the AP. Firefighters took about an hour to put out the blaze.

Rich Sniscak, the district's superintendent, told the Allentown Morning Call that the blaze destroyed a quarter of its bus fleet. Sniscak also said he's "hopeful" the district would be able to get students back to school Monday.

"We talked to our vendor already and a lot of my colleagues and superintendents in other districts have offered to check their fleet to see what buses they can come up with," Sniscak said. "I'm hopeful that we can patch something together for Monday."

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire wasn't known.
