Elton John to perform two more shows in Philadelphia on his farewell tour

Elton John's last shows in Philly weren't his last ones in town, after all.

It turns out the famed British pianist will bring his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour to the Wells Fargo Center two more times. Only, fans will have to wait more than a year for another chance to see the Rocket Man live again.

John, 70, will head back to Philly for two nights at the Wells Fargo Center on Nov. 8 and 9, 2019. Tickets for the dates go on sale Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. via the Wells Fargo Center website and box office, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.

The "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour kicked off Sept. 8 in Allentown before hitting the Wells Fargo Center this time around for two performances on Sept. 11 and 12. John's setlists in Philly included tracks like "Philadelphia Freedom," "Benny & The Jets," and "Levon," among other hits.

"It's great to be here in a city where I have so many memories," John told the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center earlier this month.

John's farewell tour is scheduled to wrap in about three years, and includes more than 300 dates throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. The conclusion of the tour will mark his retirement from live touring after about 50 years in the industry.

The singer announced the tour in January with an event in New York City where he told attendees that he has "had a good run."

"I think you'd admit that," John said.

John added that he hoped to spend more time with family. His children will be 10 and 8 when he retires in 2021, a time when he hopes to be able to take them to soccer practice.

"My priorities now are my children and my husband and my family," John said. "This is the end."

The singer initially decided on retiring back in 2015 when visiting France, saying earlier this year that he "can't physically do the traveling," but will "be creative up until the day I die."

Hits for the singer include "Candle in the Wind," "Your Song," and "Tiny Dancer." Since breaking into the music industry in the early 1960s, he has won five Grammy awards, a Golden Globe and an Oscar for The Lion King, and a Tony Award for Aida. To date, he has sold more than 300 million records.

In that time, he has performed more than 4,0000 live shows in more than 80 countries. Prior to his visit to Philly earlier this month, John last played in the city in 2013 as part of his "Diving Board" tour. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 1994 class.

Health issues have cropped up for John in recent years, including a bacterial infection contracted during a South American tour last year. In 2009, he suffered an E. coli bacterial infection. Additionally, John has dealt with appendicitis and has a pacemaker.
