No Pete Rose ceremony this weekend, so Phillies will honor those lost in 2017
Before Saturday's game, originally scheduled to be Rose's ceremony, the Phillies will stage a tribute to Darren Daulton, Dallas Green, and Jim Bunning - three Wall of Famers who have died this year.
The Phillies will not induct a player onto their Wall of Fame this weekend after distancing themselves from Pete Rose, but their annual alumni weekend celebrations will still happen. They will have a more somber tone, given the recent death of franchise icon Darren Daulton — just the latest loss the Phillies have suffered in 2017.
The team will honor Daulton on Thursday night with a pregame moment of silence accompanied by video tributes before and during the game.
Before Saturday's game, originally scheduled to be Rose's ceremony, the Phillies will stage a tribute to Daulton, Dallas Green, and Jim Bunning — three Wall of Famers who have died this year. The team said more than 40 alumni will attend this weekend's series. Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt, Dick Allen, Charlie Manuel, and Jim Thome are among the guests.
The Phillies canceled Rose's honor last week when decades-old allegations of statutory rape surfaced in federal court testimony in Philadelphia, connected to a lawsuit initiated by Rose. The team has offered refunds for tickets to Friday and Saturday night's games, or tickets to another 2017 Phillies home game.
