Woman severely burned after setting herself ablaze

Police said a 35-year-old woman was being treated for severe burns she received Saturday evening when she doused herself with gasoline at gas pumps in Germantown and then used a lighter to set herself on fire.

Philadelphia police said a 35-year-old woman was being treated at Temple University Hospital for severe burns she received Saturday evening when she doused herself with gasoline at  gas pumps in Germantown and then used a yellow lighter to set herself on fire.

The woman, who was not identified, suffered third- and fourth-degree burns over the majority of her body, police said.

The episode occurred around 6 p.m. at a Sunoco station in the 5800 block of Greene Street.

No additional information about the case or the woman's condition was available Sunday night.
