Jefferson and National Jewish Health form new respiratory institute in Philly

Jefferson Health and Denver-based National Jewish Health, a leading respiratory hospital, on Thursday announced the creation of a new respiratory institute in Philadelphia.

The Jane and Leonard Korman Respiratory Institute will adopt the centralized, streamlined care model used at National Jewish Health. Patients will see specialists and receive tests during one visit, rather than making multiple trips to various locations, said Gregory Kane. chair of Jefferson's department of medicine.

The institute, which is expected to open over the summer, is enabled by continuing support from the Korman family's foundation.  Jefferson CEO and president Stephen K. Klasko declined to specify the funding, but said the minimum for naming rights is $10 million.

The new institute will be headquartered in Jefferson's building at 834 Walnut St., but eventually will add locations across Jefferson Health's regional campuses. It will serve patients with pulmonary conditions including COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, sarcoidosis, infections, and lung cancer.
