Vikings 23, Eagles 21 – as it happened

The Eagles lost to the Vikings, 23-21, at Lincoln Financial Field, and fell to 2-3 on the season. Here's a look back at how the game unfolded in our live chat.

1:09 4th — Vikings 23, Eagles 21: Carson Wentz threw a seven-yard pass to Zach Ertz to make the game close again. But the Vikings recovered the onside kick, and that was that.

2:47 4th — Vikings 23, Eagles 14: Dan Bailey connected from 52 yards to extend Minnesota's lead.

10:14 4th: The Eagles' defense got a big turnover, as Rasul Douglas jumped on a botched Kirk Cousins lateral. But they couldn't do anything with it.

12:09 4th — Vikings 20, Eagles 14: The Birds finally scored a touchdown, as Wendell Smallwood did just enough to pull down a 12-yard touchdown pass from Carson Wentz. Smallwood then ran in a two-point conversion attempt.

2:13 3rd: It took this long for the Eagles to force the Vikings into their first three-and-out of the game.

3:00 3rd — Vikings 20, Eagles 6: Jake Elliott kicked a 28-yard field goal to give the Birds something.

7:32 3rd — Vikings 20, Eagles 3: The Birds barely managed to keep Minnesota out of the end zone, holding them to a 22-yard field goal.

9:33 3rd: Just when the Eagles finally put together a good drive, Jay Ajayi fumbled the ball away at the Vikings' 5-yard line.

0:31 2nd — Vikings 17, Eagles 3: After a controversial roughing the passer penalty against Eagles defensive lineman Michael Bennett, Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Adam Thielen.

4:12 2nd — Vikings 10, Eagles 3: Stephen Weatherly sacked and stripped Carson Wentz at the Minnesota 39-yard line, then Linval Joseph picked up the ball and ran his 323-pound self all the way down the field for a touchdown.

6:57 2nd: Dan Bailey missed again, this time from 45 yards.

12:24 2nd — Eagles 3, Vikings 3: The Eagles were unable to capitalize on an amazing 48-yard catch by Shelton Gibson, and had to settle for a 30-yard Jake Elliott field goal.

5:06 1st — Vikings 3, Eagles 0: Dan Bailey connected this time, from 37 yards.

8:40 1st: The Vikings drove right down the field on their opening drive, but the Eagles' defense kept them out of the end zone. Minnesota kicker Dan Bailey had a 28-yard field goal attempt, but clanked it off the right upright.
