Elderly woman killed crossing street in N.J.

The circumstances of the crash that left the 81-year-old woman dead remain under investigation.

An elderly New Jersey woman died after she was hit by a car while trying to cross a street over the weekend.

A driver struck Ernestine Register, 81, of Franklin Park, as she was crossing Ten Mile Run Boulevard near Timberhill Drive in Franklin Township, Somerset County, police said.

Register was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

The crash happened about 11:40 a.m. Sunday.

No charges were immediately filed against the driver, 19-year-old Kylie Fisher, Police said the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
