How last year's crop of Division I basketball recruits fared on opening night

Quade Green – Kentucky – The Neumann-Goretti guard led the Saints to the state championship game last season before heading to play for John Calipari and the Wildcats. Green was one of the first subs off the bench, but struggled with his shot and finished with four points in 21 minutes of action. The Wildcats outscored Utah Valley by 19 in the second half to win 73-63.

Collin Gillespie – Villanova – The late-blooming recruit from Archbishop Wood stayed local and could see major minutes. In the team's scrimmage against Drexel on Nov. 2, he drained a three and played decent minutes. Gillespie contributed six points, knocking down two of his five threes as the Wildcats beat Columbia, 75-60. The freshman added two rebounds and an assist.

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree – Villanova – Green's former teammate is now Gillespie's teammate. Cosby-Roundtree saw a few minutes in the scrimmage against Drexel. The forward was held scoreless but snatched a rebound and tallied a steal against Columbia.

Mohamed Bamba – Texas – The high-profile big man from basketball-factory Westtown is the centerpiece of Shaka Smart's freshman class.

Bamba got the nod as the starting center against Northwestern State. He finished with 15 points, 8 boards, and 4 blocks as Texas rolled to a 105-59 win. Safe to say Longhorn social media is a fan so far:

David Beatty – South Carolina – The Imhotep Charter grad should have a big role right away with the Gamecocks, who are retooling a bit after a Final Four run last season. Beatty came off the bench and hit two three-pointers in the first half. He had six points and two assists in 19 minutes of action in a 73-52 victory at Wofford.

Daeqwon Plowden – Bowling Green – The Mastery Charter North wing is expected to get decent minutes with the Falcons. Plowden was the second player off the bench and got off to a hot start, finishing with nine points and three boards in his homecoming 78-69 win at Drexel.

Daron Russell – Rhode Island – The Imhotep guard might not get a lot of minutes, but is expected to learn from sophomore guard Jeff Dowtin. Russell logged 14 minutes, contributing six points and four assists as Rhode Island smothered UNC Asheville, 84-60.

Izaiah Brockington – St. Bonaventure – Archbishop Ryan grad now with the Bonnies could see the floor as someone trying to work his way into the rotation. Brockington pulled down a rebound in only three minutes of action in the Bonnies' 77-75 loss to Niagra.

Lonnie Walker – Miami – A little bit out of the coverage area, but the Reading product stormed past Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Archbishop Ryan and all over local Class 6A challengers for a state title last year. Walker was a big reason why. He's making his debut for the 'Canes tonight and will play alongside Neumann-Goretti's Ja'Quan Newton, who is now a senior at Miami.

Despite coming off the bench, Walker made his first statement just before the midway point of the first half with a dunk. He got off to a hot start and put a decent night together, netting 10 points, including 2-for-3 from downtown and dishing out five assists in Miami's 77-45 thumping of Gardner-Webb.
