New Philadelphia Wings host National Lacrosse League draft, Wings select Chris Cloutier with No. 2 pick overall

The new Philadelphia Wings, a National Lacrosse League expansion team playing under the name of the city's former franchise, hosted the league's draft Tuesday at Xfinity Live, giving the city a chance to welcome the team's newcomers.

The Wings were one of four teams to enter the NLL during its inaugural season in 1987 but relocated to New England 2014. They're now an expansion team owned by Comcast Spectacor, which also owns the Flyers.

Over the years, the league has downsized, but NLL commissioner Nick Sakiewicz — former CEO of the Union was named commissioner in 2015 — announced over the summer that the league will be expanding two teams every year for the next three years for a total of 15 teams by 2020.  The league also announced a partnership with Turner where all games will be broadcast on Bleacher Report Live.

The Wings had the second pick of the draft, selecting Chris Cloutier. Over the drafts six rounds, the Wings will have nine picks.

"It was amazing. It's been a lifelong dream. All of the anticipation coming up and then finally hearing your name, it's kind of like 'Wow it actually happened," Cloutier said.

"With the way the first draft went, we picked up a lot of great leaders and it's going to be awesome having those veterans there. Being able to calm all the new guys down and bring us in and bring us into the game and show us how everything is done," said Cloutier of the excitement surrounding the team.
