Two shot to death, three others injured in 12 hours in Philly

The victims included an 18-year-old man shot in the back, and two men in their 20s who were shot dead in separate incidents in West Philadelphia.

Two men were shot dead and three others -- including an 18-year-old man -- were wounded by gunfire in Philadelphia during a violent 12-hour stretch Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to police.

A 27-year-old man was shot around 7:47 p.m. on the 1400 block of North Vogdes Street, in West Philadelphia, police said. He died about a half-hour later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Police did not identify the victim, and said no arrests had been made.

About two hours later, at 10:05 p.m., police responding to the intersection of Park and Olney Avenues found a bicycle on the ground and a spattering of blood. Officers went to the emergency room at Einstein Medical Center -- a block from the scene -- and saw an 18-year-old man heading inside to be treated for gunshot wounds to the back and buttocks, police said.

The teen, whom police did not identify, was in critical condition. Authorities said they were searching for the gunman, believed to be a black man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall with short hair, and wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.

About four hours after that shooting, around 2 a.m. Sunday, police said two men were shot outside El Batey Bar, on the 400 block of West Dauphin Street in North Philadelphia.

One of the victims, age 41, was shot in the legs while talking to his brother outside the bar, police said. The other victim, age 40, was hit in the right hip and left hand. Both were treated at Temple University Hospital; police did not say what condition they were in. No arrest was made.

Around 4:04 a.m. on the 5500 block of Market Street in West Philadelphia, a 24-year-old man was shot twice. Police said he was taken to Penn Presbyterian hospital and pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m.

Authorities did not identify the victim, and said no one had been arrested.
