He's about four inches shorter and around 75 pounds lighter, but if you squint while the sun hits his face just so, Neumann-Goretti junior quarterback Charles Britt does somewhat resemble NFL star Cam Newton.

The resemblance is only partly why his new teammates call him "Chizz Newton."

On a steamy Saturday afternoon, Britt also showed some "Newton-lite" characteristics in the Saints' 42-7 drubbing of Bishop McDevitt at the South Philly Supersite.

Britt, who quarterbacked at now-closed Delaware Valley Charter last season, finished with 124 yards and a score in the air, as well as 84 yards and another score on the ground.

He said changing schools was "really hard," but it helped that some of his teammates from Del Val joined him with the Saints (4-0).

"I mean, there was nothing we could really do," Britt said. "The school tried to fight it, but they couldn't. We had to just move on."

Several of Britt's scrambles elicited screams of "Chizz Newton!" from the Saints' sideline.

His 22-yard scramble near the end of the third frame cemented N-G's already firm grasp on the game.

"After running around the field like that, it was tiring," he said with a smile. "But it was fun. It's fun when you see open field with nobody there."

Senior running back Leddie Brown doesn't need open field. The 6-0, 210-pound transfer from Delaware doesn't mind running through defenders. The West Virginia commit finished with 119 yards and a score on 12 carries.

Chris Wells, who played at Imhotep last season, added 78 yards and two scores on five carries.

Defensively on Saturday, Tysheem Johnson returned an interception 37 yards for an early score.

McDevitt (4-1) muffed the ensuing squib quick, which led to another Saints score. N-G eventually carried a 30-0 lead into intermission.

The Lancers competed valiantly but were overmatched at nearly every position.

McDevitt's lone score came on a 45-yard pass from Lonnie Rice to Amari Jones.
