Devon Horse Show & County Fair

(Community) The Devon Horse Show is one of the largest multi-breed horse shows in the country. Come watch as competitors from around the world showcase their skills in hopes of winning top prize. The County Fair features activities for the entire family and includes food, games and unique vendors to shop.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

(Outdoors / free / multiday) The seasonal riverside pop-up returns to Penn’s Landing with special daytime family programming on Sundays (11 a.m.-3 p.m.) and plenty of games and pay-as-you-go snacks for just about everyone. Ages 3 and up. Also re-launching on the Delaware this weekend (May 25): the RiverLink Ferry from Philly to Camden, NJ.

Latino Arts and Film Festival

(Movies) Both established and emerging Latino filmmakers will be celebrated for their creativity and contributions to culture. This festival lineup includes workshops, feature films, shorts, animations and so much more. Plus, celebrate the 10th annual LOLA Awards, which honors the filmmaking achievements of Latino creatives.

The best events for kids in Philly

And just like that, Memorial Day weekend is upon us. For those families who aren’t planning a long weekend schlep to the Shore, the Poconos, Grandma’s, etc., here are some reasons to get out of the house and into the city.

Pinocchio

(Theater / multiday) The Arden Theatre recently extended its lovably modernized take on this classic tale of a boy made of wood, his creator-dad, a whale, a cricket, and believing in yourself. Tickets remain for two ASL interpreted performances on May 25 at 4 p.m. and June 5 at 10:30 a.m. Ages 4-12.

Garden Railway: Dinos!

(Dinosaurs / garden / multiday) An elegant Chestnut Hill botanical enclave has declared the coming months the “Summer of Dinos” at Morris Arboretum featuring a self-guided tour of prehistoric-related plants, an expansive outdoor toy train setup featuring fantastic Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, etc. made out of bark, and a “paleontologist’s cottage” with fossil-digging capabilities. Ages 2 and up.

Africa Day
